AGSI and ALDAR Join Forces to Drive Sustainability in Construction and Advance Net-Zero Goals
Arabian Gulf Steel Industries (AGSI), the World’s first Carbon Neutral Steel Plant and Net Zero Steel Manufacturing Facility based in the UAE, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ALDAR Properties to integrate innovative, low-carbon steel solutions into sustainable construction projects. The signing, which took place at World Future Energy Summit during the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, reflects a shared vision to reshape the construction industry by advancing Net-Zero goals and promoting the use of sustainable materials.
AGSI’s Net Zero Steel, produced from locally sourced 100% recycled materials, will play a pivotal role in reducing embodied carbon in ALDAR’s real estate developments. This collaboration highlights ALDAR’s commitment to prioritizing sustainable construction practices and AGSI’s leadership in delivering circular economy solutions that significantly lower environmental impact.
The agreement also highlights the importance of strengthening local supply chains and supporting In-Country Value (ICV) initiatives, demonstrating how sustainability and economic growth can go hand-in-hand.
By prioritizing locally produced, low-carbon steel, AGSI and ALDAR aim to accelerate the decarbonization of the UAE’s built environment while setting a benchmark for next-generation building practices. This collaboration serves as a model for sustainable urban development, demonstrating how innovation and shared commitments can drive meaningful progress in the region.
The construction industry has traditionally been one of the largest contributors to approximately 40% of global carbon emissions. At the same time, the built environment represents an opportunity for emissions reduction of 56%, making it a critical sector for the UAE to meet its net zero targets for 2050 under Paris Agreement. Through its innovative, low-emission steel production, AGSI is driving significant progress in decarbonizing construction while complementing ALDAR’s leadership in sustainable real estate development.
